Tuberville continues to hold up military promotions and appointments

Nov 07, 2023

Editor, The Beacon:

U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville is described by VoteVets.org as “A boot lawmaker with, at best, dubious qualifications to be a U.S. Senator.”

Seven weeks ago, when my wife, Caryn, and I were at the Naval Air Station in Mayport, we witnessed the “Ripple Effect” of Tuberville’s one-man war against military readiness. (I did not write this letter then because we never thought that this situation would be allowed to go on for so long, to say the least!)

For months, Sen. Tuberville has held up hundreds of senior-level military promotions and appointments in an effort to reverse a Pentagon policy to reimburse travel costs for women troops seeking reproductive health care.

Three U.S. military services are now without Senate-confirmed chiefs for the first time in history, and their replacements’ promotions of more than 300 military officers are being stalled by Tuberville, while the U.S. Marine Corps is left without a confirmed commandant for the first time since 1910!

Speaking of the ongoing ripple effect and how it affects military personnel … one does not have to look further than our local military bases where PCS (Permanent Change of Station) orders are concerned.

Most PCS orders take place during the summer when school is out so families can be in place for the new school year, but this cannot happen when and until those up the chain of command know where they will PCS to.

On top of this, others due for an eventual promotion are not receiving the salaries that they would be receiving with promotions, which amounts to serious financial losses for many with their time in grade.

The last curious thing of note is that since the 14th of July 2023, Tuberville has not owned property in Alabama, and lives most of the time at Santa Rosa Beach, here in Florida.

So fellow Beacon readers, does that mean he is Florida’s Third Senator, as one news source asked?
